More than 77,000 Montanans get their health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace at Healthcare.gov. But big changes are coming, and it’s important to get ready.
Step 1: Get Ready
Before you can update your account or shop for a new plan, gather the info you’ll need:
- Your Healthcare.gov username and password
Make sure you know your login info. If you’re having trouble, this guide can help. - Household and income information
You’ll need to update your account with current details. This checklist shows what info to gather ahead of time.
Step 2: Plans and Prices Are Changing
- Prices Are Going Up
In recent years, extra tax credits helped lower the cost of monthly premiums. Most Montanans qualified for these savings. But those extra tax credits will end after 2025 unless Congress brings them back. Right now, Congress has not done that—so most people will see higher prices for 2026 plans.- What to do:
When prices go up, it’s more important than ever to shop around. Update your info on Healthcare.gov and compare plans to find one that fits your budget.
- What to do:
- Plans Are Changing Too
Every year, health plans on Healthcare.gov change. That includes:- Doctor and hospital networks
The doctors, clinics, and hospitals covered by your plan may be different in 2026. If you want to keep seeing a specific doctor, make sure they’re still “in network” for the plan you choose. - Prescription drug coverage
Drug lists change too. If you take regular medications, check that your plan covers the exact drug and dosage you need—at a price you can afford.
- Doctor and hospital networks
- Bottom line:
With higher prices and changing plans, Montanans will need more time to find a plan that meets their needs and fits their budget.
