In the last year, 1 in 10 Montanans has lost their Medicaid and Healthy Montana Kids, but it’s not too late to get covered again. Many people lost their coverage because of paperwork and complicated systems, not because they weren’t eligible. Whether you still qualify for Medicaid or Healthy Montana Kids, or need to transition to a plan on Healthcare.gov, you can get covered again and Cover Montana can help.
- If you lost Medicaid because you didn’t complete your renewal or provide all requested paperwork and verifications (and you think you’re still eligible) you need to fill out a new application. Cover Montana can help you reapply, call our helpline at 844-682-6837 or find a local Navigator.
- If you lost Medicaid coverage because you are newly eligible for Medicare, you’ll need to enroll in Medicare. Cover Montana doesn’t help with Medicare enrollments, but Montana SHIP counselors can help. To find the closest SHIP counselor, call 1-800-551-3191. Don’t delay, you only have a limited time to enroll.
- If you lost Medicaid because you are above the income eligibility, you may be able to get coverage through your employer or the Health Insurance Marketplace at Healthcare.gov.
- Plans on Healthcare.gov are comprehensive plans that cover everything from prescription drugs, to maternity coverage, to hospital stays, and you can’t be denied or charged more for having a pre-existing condition.
- Most Montanans enrolled in Marketplace plans qualify for financial help to make their monthly premium more affordable. Check out our calculator tool to see what kind of financial assistance you might qualify for.
- Montana’s Marketplace includes plans from PacificSource, Mountain Health COOP, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana.
- Employer-sponsored coverage: If you have an offer of coverage through your employer, or the employer of a family member, you can get a Special Enrollment Period if you lose Medicaid. This means that you’ll be able to enroll, even if it is outside of your employer’s annual enrollment period. Click here for more information.
- You can get assistance with enrolling in these options from Cover Montana via our helpline at 844-682-6837 or find local help.
- Health insurance can be confusing, but you don’t have to do it alone. Cover Montana has a team of licensed Navigators who are experts on eligibility, costs, applications, and plan selection. Navigators provide free, confidential, and unbiased enrollment assistance.
